I used to think it would inevitably happen sooner or later, but now I'm not so sure. Barry Hearn is just the kind of pig-headed egotistical individual that wouldn't budge one inch and Ronnie is just the kind of crazy obsessive genius who also might not budge one inch. At this stage I'd still say it's odds against but I don't think we can ignore it as a possibility anymore. Ronnie just may have played his last ever competitive shot when he blasted that red and won his forth World Title.

He will sign it for the UK I am sure... but not going into the prem league is a big slap in the face to Hearn who should have had the intelligence to negotiate.

I'm not so sure now, he certainly sounds like he's sticking to his guns on this at the moment, did you hear what he said on the Sports Bar radio show the other day.

Andy Goldstein: "what's the latest (about the snooker contract)"?

Ronnie: "I want to play, I'm not ready to give up yet but there's no way I can even contemplate signing that contract. There are just too many things in there that are not right and at this stage in my career I don't think it's going to be sustainable, suitable for me but I still want to play so I'm obviously looking at other areas to still compete and play but it's early days...".

Goldstein: "If an agreement can be reached that both parties are happy with you're more than happy to carry on playing in the professional game"?

Ronnie: " Yeah, I'm more than...it's not even about money, I don't want no (sic) money to play. I just want certain things to be fair and it's just not fair at the moment and if I was to continue to play it would have to be to give myself half a chance, but with the things they've got now I'd just be overworked and my quality of game would go down and my snooker play at the end of the day".

He went on to again say that it wasn't really about money and make the point that number 96 in the world is not going to be asked to do the things he's going to be asked to do so to have the same contract for all seems unfair.

MEANWHILE...Hearn is coming out with the usual bullish talk, "If anyone has told Ronnie that because he's world champion he's got us by the balls, they're wrong"!

Sick of hearing stereotype comments like this..He's head of WPBSA - Why cant the guy be original and use a bit of grey matter and come to some sort of agreement, instead of projecting that UGLY > El Macho type image.

I hear August 6th is a key date as the closing date for entries into the UK Championship. I'm afraid if I was betting on this I'd go for him not signing and missing the UK. Hopefully I'm wrong. I also have a feeling that he'll still sign the contract before the World Championship. Getting into Ronnie's mind I think he wants to see if Hearn will budge when he doesn't enter the UK's but he still would like to defend his World Championship. That's just my gut instinct on this.

Apparently Ronnie also has a disciplinary today so it seems wise to suggest that may have an impact on his decision.

Latest news regarding this issue is apparently the disciplinary result (regarding no shows last season) has to consider further medical evidence while there does seem to be some movement in negotiations on the contract, the deadline for the UK entry has been extended until tomorrow so I think we can say that at least talks are going on.

Definitely. The goal post has been moved for a reason.

Ronnie has signed the contract. I am guessing a deal has been struck! :bruce: :pint: :dance1:
Not a surprise to me though, I knew the UK would be the sign day.

Yes, that is great news! As they said at the grove "contract clarified" and he has entered the International in China and the UK Championship it seems. :D
pro snooker blog wrote:
Hot on the heels of my earlier post highlighting speculation as to extension of the deadline for the UK Championship, it appears as though the long-running saga has tonight reached some sort of resolution as @grovesnooker has tonight tweeted:

Good news. @ronnieo147 may be playing again. Contract clarified. Uk and international in china entered.”

As has been commented upon, to say that the contract has been clarified is an interesting choice of wording, though as ever we can only speculate as to what has been agreed between the parties, at least until any official statements are issued by either Ronnie or the governing body anyway.

While I am sure that a lot more detail will emerge from the mainstream press over the next couple of days, judging by the early response on Twitter, the initial reaction seems to be that his fellow players and fans alike are pleased to hear that the contract has now been signed and that O’Sullivan will apparently soon be back in competition, potentially making his comeback in the International Championship, which kicks off on 28th October 2012.

Update: Leading snooker journalist Hector Nunns has tonight tweeted the following:

“O’Sullivan signs and will play in UK. Read in Times, Mirror, Express etc. Requested 11th-hour meeting with Hearn. No major concessions”

Are you surprised to see him back so soon or was this to be expected? I tend to favour the latter, but then I did not expect him to be absent from the Premier League this season so it was a difficult one to call with any certainty.

Of course it remains to be seen how many events the reigning world champion chooses to enter, even with the contract signed as he retains the right to pick and choose events as he wishes. I certainly cannot imagine him rushing to enter many of the upcoming PTC events, but come the ‘majors’ I would be surprised to see him not part of the tournaments.

"Requested an "11th hour meeting with Hearn". That sounds like Ronnie!! :D I'm sure further details will emerge of any concessions. Whatever, it is nice to see them working together at last.

The Americans have a much better swimming system to us, it's very competitive and they have a major meet over there to get all the swimmers used to the pressure of the Olympics.

We are doing excellently in the Olympics this year, I didn't think we would! To say we are 3rd on medal list with our population is brilliant. You expect America and China to lead as they have a much much larger pool of resources and people.

To have creamed the Kremlin was a milestone in itself. Who would have thought that.

- as for Ronnie, well what can I say...Kick arse! - and second finger up to Hearne for being such a shit.
